Croatian Culture & Atmosphere

What do you focus on the most when traveling?

I focus mainly on sightseeing, I try to see as many things as I can so I can make the most of my time there. I’ll go visit some of the villages nearby and even go on a small roadtrip to the cities on the other side of the country.

How is the traditional Croatian food?

The local food is absolutely delicious. Split has the advantage of being right next to the sea, so the seafood is as fresh as it can be. In restaurants, pizza is a common dish, typically thin crusted. When I was there I also had a lot of fresh homemade pastries such as burek which is a traditional Balkan pastry.

What’s the most memorable cultural experience you had?

In Croatia, it was the atmosphere itself. The combination of music in the streets and exploring the old town, it was a relaxing experience. I had an amazing time visiting each local shop and seeing the different jewelry and clothing as well as all the different types of souvenirs.

Island Hopping

Are the island’s beaches better than in the city?

In my opinion, they are. They are a lot less crowded and more relaxing. It especially makes a great spot for snorkeling to observe all the colorful corals and the countless fish, starfish and sea urchins.

How are the ferry and boat rides to the islands?

The ferry rides are typically half an hour long but vary depending on the destination. However it gives you more than enough time to admire the deep blue sea and take plenty of pictures. If you can get lucky enough, you can even spot a couple dolphins depending on the season.

Which was your favorite island?

It is definitely hard to only pick one but if I had to, it would probably be Brač because of its beaches and the lovely experience I had over there. The place I stayed in was a two minute walk away from the beach which even had a Wibit. It has many beaches and it gets super dark and quiet at night so it is perfect for relaxing.

Exploring Split

What is it like exploring Split?

It is something completely different from the cities in North America. Everything is different from the people to the culture and especially the architecture. The city’s ancient stone streets give the city an ancient Roman vibe. With the bright blue water and mountains in the distance, exploring Split feels very refreshing.

Are the beaches as nice as they are online?

Yes! They absolutely are, if not even better. Bačvice Beach, which is located near the city center, is one of the few sandy beaches in Split. It is a local favorite where people usually play picigin, a traditional Croatian ball game played in the shallow ends of the water. It has a beautiful lively atmosphere lined with cafes and bars.

What’s the best way to spend an evening in the city?

The best way to spend an evening in Split, Croatia, is to have a stroll along the Riva promenade and watch the colorful sunset. Then walking inside the old town and exploring the different local shops. A great way to finish the night is to enjoy some local food, especially the seafood, at a cozy restaurant.
